A consultation meeting regarding Provincial Multi Sectoral Nutrition Strategy of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) was held on 28th June with the collaboration of SUN- CSA (Scaling Up Nutrition-Civil Society Alliance) in Peshawar. The meeting was actually the follow up of meeting held on 28th April related to one of the recommendations of International Nutritional Workshop this year. The objective of the current meeting was to review the challenges and hurdles in implementation of the Multi Sectoral Nutrition Strategy in KP and establish a consensus to move forward for its implementations. There was a multi stakeholder forum in the meeting including civil society,  media, parliamentarians, policy makers, Director General Health, Director General Agriculture and Chief Health & Assistant Chief Health of Planning & Development department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The speakers threw light on the situation of malnutrition in Pakistan and particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The forum was of the view that despite a lot of work at national and provincial level on nutrition still Pakistan and province KP is struggling to improve its nutrition situation.

On the technical side, Dr. Naseer Muhammad Nizamani Country Director Microneutrient Initiatives (MI), shared salient features of the strategy and emphasised the integrated approaches including CSO, business communities, media, parliamentarians, and policy makers for improving the status of nutrition and reduction in child and maternal mortality. Dr. Irshad Danish SUN-CSA coordinator, shared the global approaches for the issues of nutrition and shared that investment in nutrition in timely manner can makes a difference in our economy. The final conclusion of the meeting was to utilise the services of Mr. Jaffer Shah (parliamentarian)  to coordinate with sustainable Development Goal (SDG) committee to gear up the implementation of nutrition strategy and increase resources where needed and raise the voice in the parliament for approval of pending bills. At the end Mr. Zaheer Khattak EC member SUN-CSA KP thanked the participants and concluded the meeting.
