Each year millions of people die from malnutrition-related problems. Those who survive are robbed of a healthy body, a sound intellect, and the hope for healthful living. Despite its global toll malnutrition is given limited attention by the world community. The causes and consequences of malnutrition are complex, and it will require the concerted efforts of all social institutions, including the social work profession, to combat malnutrition effectively. This article examines social determinants and consequences of malnutrition and suggests several social work actions that might be helpful toward minimizing malnutrition.In the year 2000, multiple global health agencies and stakeholders convened and established eight tenets that, if followed, would make our world a vastly better place. These tenets are called the Millennium Development Goals. Most of these goals are either directly or indirectly related to nutrition.

Adequate nutrition, a fundamental cornerstone of any individual's health, is especially critical for women because inadequate nutrition wreaks havoc not only on women's own health but also on the health of their children. Children of malnourished women are more likely to face cognitive impairments, short stature, lower resistance to infections, and a higher risk of disease and death throughout their lives

This is exactly what Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture in Mountain areas project wants to tackle, by linking Nutrition and Agriculture through sustainable approaches and contributing to better lives of women and children. I look forward that Rural Service providers from Pakistan will come up with many brilliant ideas to implement small but important projects about nutrition and agriculture, like good agricultural practices, nutritional cooking methods, local market development to boost local consumption and improve nutrition, and many others...
